If your looking for hi-gain guitar sounds, pick up a used Peavey 5150 for around $500 and get a 4x12 loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. The Mesa Standard 4x12 cabinet is recommended for it's larger size.

Also, check into the Peavey Windsor. It very very similar to a JCM800 but will only cost you $400 brand new.
