Tape Hiss
Tape Hiss
I'd really like to add a track of tape hiss to some digital recordings I'm doing but every sample of tape hiss I can find off of CD's that I have won't loop right. I've seriously tried every crossfade setting and they are all audible.
Does anyone have long .WAV's of pure tape hiss samples that they would be willing to send me? Or have any ideas on how to get a sample of this?
Thanks

Its not Tape Hiss, but I like to take a real dirty pre amp and crank it up with no mic hooked up and record the Hiss.

Amazingly, there's nothing on the search for "tape hiss" at freesound, but I think you should nose around freesound a bit anyway. It's a site where people upload samples from their handheld recorders and such. Try http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/searchText.php - there's a very good search engine there.
I bet you can find some hiss over there somewhere, and then most of the samples are fair game under Creative Commons licensing. They just got a Google grant so the site should be even better soon.

As for plugins, all I have is Vinyl and it doesn't come close. I'll check out Freesound. If not I guess I can bug the studio I'm recording at soon to just make me like a 20 second loop or something.

I could get crazy and hook up my 3M 2' but set it to run at 7.5ips so it would both hi and lo fi. But I won't.Blade wrote:Yep, or it might just be to LO-FI for what is needed...HAHAHA!jv wrote:Or you could go to a thrift store and pick up a cassette deck...

Freesound is awesome and fun. I've gotten so much useful stuff there.Tatertot wrote:Amazingly, there's nothing on the search for "tape hiss" at freesound, but I think you should nose around freesound a bit anyway. And CDs were supposed to get rid of groove noise, but that doesn't stop folks from using it as an "effect."swelle wrote:Wasn't digital supposed to get rid of tape hiss?
