Yeah, the specs are right in line. Acoustic cotton works well for bass traps. But they rate it a "C" for aesthetics for a reason; it is floppy and puffy and does not hold its shape. If you build frames for cotton and cover it with cloth, the end result will look more like "fluffy pillow" than "rigid fiberglass panel with nice, clear edges."

If you can hide the cotton behind a false wall or something, that's the best way to go.

Or, if appearance doesn't mean much to you, it can work very well.

First of all, I don't really know that much about this kind of stuff.

That being said, does the 1.2 lb. density sound kinda low for such a high NRC?

Is there anything that's of comparable quality for less cost? This stuff is $4/sq. ft.

Last time I looked, Ultratouch was much cheaper than that, if you can find a local dealer (ie, so you don't have to pay shipping).

ultratouch is definitely puffy, but it does the job admirably. very happy with it so far. also, not having to wear a hazmat suit when installing it is also a plus.

Not necessarily!

Just use landscaping weed stopper fabric on the front and the back, and staple the cotton to the frame. If the fabric is nice and taut they will keep their shape great! And the staples = no sagging.
