this could be really cool--we've been using SE Mics since their inception--one of their reps just called us and asked if we would try some. they're not one of the many 'clone' makers. . .AND they seem to listen to what the buyer has to say.

I saw pre-production units of the Rupert Neve SE mics at the last NAMM show. They look unbelievably dope. If you have 'em in your mic locker, your clients will want to use them on looks alone. I'm sure they're going to start showing up in Hip Hop videos soon.

awesome. I have always wanted to pick up an SE. This gives me an excuse. Has to get in line behind a TAB MD421 and a ME20 capsule for my K3u.

I've seen a short clip about those on youtube. From what I remember the mics were way above my budget.

Edit:
Here it is:

Sure, they look cool, but at a $3000 list price there will probably be better ways to spend your money.

i'm gonna jump in and suggest that that's one of the ugliest mics i've ever seen.

How can you say it's not worth the money without hearing the mic?

yeah... me either. anyone who finds a picture should post it.

honestly there's a small part of me that buys things on looks. (actually it's a large part, but by "looks" I mean if it looks like they paid a lot of attention. I don't think many people would spend a ton of money on the insides and then just throw the thing in a shitty looking enclosure).

*edit* oops! just saw the vid post. I guess that's just as good. I like that neve is going to be helping with a tube mic... that's almost an oxymoron.

This is true, it's just hard to imagine spending that much money on a SE microphone when they are general associated with affordable microphones.

To be honest, I can't say I would ever spend that much money on a single piece of gear, at least not in my current financial situation.

I think the price premium is only partly because of Ruperts name on the body.
Transformers are also pretty expensive as far as audio components go. I think thats why there was so much bad mouthing of transformers back in the 70's and 80's. the manufacturers had an agenda to move over to electronic balancing instead of tranny balancing. It saves them money!
Ya know and there is that whole thing about for every dollar they spend building it your gonna end up paying $5.
