Apogee Rosetta + FW vs Rosetta + Symphony. Opinions?

Post by rastro2 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 11:19 am

Hi

I'm looking to improve on my current PT 002R setup. I'm starting to switch over to Logic and I'm interested in the Apogees and their claims of low latency.

Is there a significant difference between using the Rosetta with the FW interface vs. the Symphony PCI? Lower latency? I guess it's not a huge difference in cost($500, right?), but what are the advantages?

Also, I currently monitor via the "Mon Out" on the 002R. Would I be able to monitor through the analog out of the Rosetta?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joe McGinty

firewire off the bat adds 4 ms to everything

get the symphony.

If I were you I'd buy an AES card from someone else so in a few years when someone creates the magic converter that kicks the crap out of everything else that came before it, you're not still "stuck" with apogee rosettas.

Thanks. Can you give me an example of a setup with an AES card that will work w/Symphony? Pardon my ignorance, so far I've only used the 002R, which is pretty much plug & play (well, except for the numerous bugs and faulty power harness issues).

thanks,

Joe

RME is the shizzle

good luck getting any of this shit to work with pro tools though.

RME is awesome.

You can only interface apogee interfaces to pro tools via a PT Core card or light pipe into your 002.

Thanks for the tips. How would the RME interface with the Rosetta?

I'm using Logic more and more, so I'll be able to use the Rosetta/PCI combination, but keeping the 002 for PT sessions (so I guess I'd use the SPDIF or ADAT in to the 002).

thanks for your advice,

Joe
