Headrests (chair headrests)

Post by CabreeToe » Wed Apr 02, 2008 2:19 pm

I know i might be nit-picking but...

Can a chair's headrest affect your monitoring environment? I mean people talk about relatively small things acting as obstructions causing comb-filtering I was just wondering if chair choice will "colour" your sound.

just a thought

Yes, but so will a hat with a wide brim or a toque that comes down over the ears.

Yes, it will. Sort of like singing while wearing a big cowboy hat, high frequencies will get moved around a bit.

Probably a fluffy padded headrest is better than a shiny reflective one.

When I wear a hat (not often) I can hear the reflections like crazy from the brim. In the studio I hear computer screens, tables, consoles, back of the chair and everything screwing up the sound. It drives me nuts. Oh to be happy and unable to hear these things - I wish for the days of my shitty mixes...

We had a high backed chair once. Not only did I nearly fall asleep in it, I could hear it fucking with the sound. Tossed it.

Yes! I actually measured that. See that last part of this short article:
