Totally freakin awesome! I have not and will never buy anything that Monster makes since I think they are overpriced and they way they have bullied anyone with monster in there name.

Good for him!

Didn't they try to sue Pixar (Monsters Inc) and Monster.com for using the word monster? These guys are out of control.

I own a business where a 'patent troll' has successfully interfered with my sales to the tune of 30,000 or more. I've already spend $15,000 in my case against him and it looks like I'll be spending at least $20,000 more in Arbitration. When all is said and done, doing nothing wrong will have cost me as much as $65,000. The worst part about it is, in intellectual property cases, it's almost impossible to get awarded any attorney's fees, and I'd have to prove that he was certain that I wasn't infringing when he was harrasing me to be awarded damages.

I'm sure his guy, as an attorney, knows what he's getting into, but in my opinion, it's sometimes easier to pay the big bad troll than to jump in the ring with him. The courts only allow you as much justice as you can afford. On the upside, he seems well enough prepared to represent himself.

I hope Monster Cable backs down in light of the publicity and this guys obvious understanding of his rights. I'm sick of big companies taking advantage of everyone. I was really disappointed to see Apple file suit against New York City for the use of an apple in a "Go Green" campaign. New York is the Big Apple after all. And who the hell is going to confuse a little green recycling bag and some pamphlets for anything Apple sells.

Go Corporate America, I guess!

This guy is a badass. I sure hope they sue him and he can hang them out to dry.

a couple times in that open letter I read "Monster" as "Mobster", which subsequently amused me.

Man, that is so great!

This was my favorite part:
Further, if any of these patents or trademarks has been licensed to any entity, please provide me with copies of the licensing agreements. I assume that Monster Cable International, Ltd., in Bermuda, listed on these patents, is an IP holding company and that Monster Cable's principal US entity pays licensing fees to the Bermuda corporation in order to shift income out of the United States and thereby avoid paying United States federal income tax on those portions of its income; my request for these licensing agreements is specifically intended to include any licensing agreements, including those with closely related or sham entities, within or without the Monster Cable "family," and without regard to whether those licensing agreements are sham transactions for tax shelter purposes only or whether they are bona fide arm's-length transactions.

... but then it got better.

I swear that's the greatest piece of writing if read in too long. You'd figure you'd pay money to see that guy with Monster in court. Sufjan Stevens needs to write a song about this.

I just ordered some cables from blue jeans because of it.

Their website is very slow right now though.
