RSS Feed for the Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day

Post by Professor T » Thu Apr 17, 2008 11:33 am

Hey Tombers-

After getting tired of checking/forgetting to check Musician's Friend everyday to find out what the stupid deal of the day was, I made an RSS feed out of it. Thought I'd share:

Nice!

I once wondered if there was anything like this. Then I kinda ran out of money and stopped checking because I would usually fall for their tricks and get stuff I didn't need..

Now that the constant reminder is there I have no worries of saving up too much money.

Thanks!!! haha
Just doing what I love.

Stupid questions for you:

1) Is this thing working? I just visited your link and it shows stuff from last week... even if I click "Today"... whereas GC shows a $90 Rouge acoustic guitar on their site right now.

2) Can you help me understand the advantage of this compared to just visiting GCs site? I'm sure there is something I'm missing here (RSS reader? Email blasts?)

Thanks!

-steve

Yikes, just saw your questions.

1) Just checked it, it seems to be running ok. Maybe you had cached an old version?

2) If you're not doing RSS feeds, then no, there isn't much point. But, you can add this feed to your "my yahoo" home page for example. You build your home page into a sort of custom newspaper front page. Add this feed, your netflix queue feed, a craigslist feed, etc. All the news on one page!

Totally off topic but what is the name of the man in you avatar, prof. T? I saw a vocal instruction video of him on youtube awhile ago and I cannot find it for the life of me anymore.

Cool. Thanks for this. I also like your sig. I worked a bit with Bob Mayo before he died :( .
I suppose before is redundant.

He is quite a character. I think his videos are all down now. I looked about six months ago and could not find them either. Awesome technique -- the mind is a powerful thing!

I did it with yahoo pipes. Basically I told it the url of the page, it cuts out the content between two html tags that are there every day, and makes that the feed's "content". Pipes is pretty cool. I made a feed for the local craigslist that looks for traynor amps!

Aww man, I had no idea he had passed on. My favorite part of the song!
