Recommend a "mastering" program for Windows

Post by wren » Fri Apr 25, 2008 7:43 pm

I am in the market for a "mastering"-type program. I'm used to using Peak at work, but this is going to be for home so I need it to be PC-compatible. I'd like it to be similar to Peak, but better if possible (i.e. no random and inexplicable error messages that only occasionally mean anything  ). So, in essence, a nice, stable (!!!) program for editing stereo audio files and home "mastering" (yes yes I know *shudder*). Any experience? suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Windows DAW apps that have ability for direct PQ creation & editing:

Steinberg Wavelab
Magix Samplitude / Sequoia
Sony CD Architect
Merging Pyramix
SADIE
SAWStudio with JMS Audioware CSG add on (what I use)

We've got WaveLab on our systems here at the Studio and it works very well.

Thanks everyone!

Here's the question now: is it worth the extra money to buy the full version of Wavelab over the Studio version? Is the spectrum editor worth the extra money (keeping in mind that I'm an extremely poor college student)?

What do you think?

maybe there's an academic discount available for students and teachers?

dunno how that works, but it's worth a shot.

There are different variations of Wavelab depending on what kind of files you are working with and environment. Here is a link to the comparison chart, but I definitely put in my vote for Wavelab!

There is. With the discount, the difference is $125, which isn't much, but for me currently that equals saving a little and waiting another two weeks for another paycheck. And I'm impatient. :D
