Did the AKG C451 E have a capsule other than the CK1

Post by Sean Sullivan » Tue Apr 29, 2008 3:56 pm

I'm thinking of picking up a pair of AKG C451 E in my search for a "do it all" small diaphragm condenser pair (SM81, MK-012-01, NT5, and 603S let me down) and was wondering if these old models every used a carioid capsule besides the CK1. The reissues, the B series, have a different capsule I know, but I just wanted to check before bidding on some on eBay.

They were offered with several different capsules, from ck1 to ck22. The ck2 was an omni and the ck3 was hypercardioid. More info in the quote HERE

buying an older 451 will also allow you to use the blue lollipop capsules. these sound quite nice. i find the blue lollipops more useful than most of the capsules that akg made for the 451.

CK5s are CK1s with bulbous windscreens. I kinda like the CK5s I have a little better than the CK1s, but that may be because the CK1s have seen more use and abuse, while the neglected and still brand new looking CK5s are relatively untouched. I didn't know about the blue lollipops. Interesting.

I have a pair of C451Es that I'm selling if you're interested. It's bodies only, though. Drop me a PM if you're interested at all. That said...

These are indeed workhorse mics. The Blue capsules are awfully nice and there are a number of cardioid flavors available there. Here's a link to those:
