Sonar 7 Producer
So ... I did a search and couldn't find anything on here. Does anyone else use this program. I love it!
I will see you there, or I will see you at another time.

Yep, sure do.
One word - Track layers....
well 2 I gess
This version is a bit buggier than some of the others, but it still rules. I'm a bit worried about the investmen Roland has made. I guess they pretty much control cake now.
Have you checked out the Cakewalk msg boards?

Oh yeah, don't care for the Cakewalk msg boards much. I mostly surf the TOMB and Gearslutz. Something about the Cakewalk board ... I dunno.
ANYWAY, I don't use the box for much other than editing. I'm not a huge fan of the effects ... though the new compressors and eq's are pretty nice!

I just started using it along with PT LE.
I'm a dealer, so chatting with the Roland rep bagged me a free copy.
I was attracted to it because it seemed to have all the features that PT has but fewer limitations. Mainly regarding hardware and track count.
However the workflow for me anyway, SUCKS!
Simple little things I don't even think about in PT are impossible in Sonar slowing my learning to a crawl.
Things like grouping tracks from the console. It shouldn't involve right clicking and menu searching for every single track individually. I want to be able to select my 8 drum tracks and push ctrl g to assign them to a group.
I could go on and on about that stuff, maybe workflow will be the big improvement in the next version, like MIDI was in this version.
Hell its waaay better than Cubase, Logic, or Reaper though.

Console view is for whimps... just kidinJon~T wrote:Things like grouping tracks from the console.
I havnt even looked a the console view since it was PA 9, waste of real-estate. I only use the Track view, I just adjust everything in the track inspectors. (You can toggle it on and off with the I key) You can even double click the per track EQ to open all 6 of its points in a parametric view instead of looking at sliders.
Check out Track folders.
I work with PT M powered as well, Sonar blows it out of the water in my opinion, but who am I . I can't live without the track layers.
As far as the effects go, the perfect space Con. Verb is awsome. I like Sonutis Comp, Multi-Comp and the gate. Other that that I use vsts I have collected over the years.
The cake msgboard has sucked for a while, the tend to drift way off topic and never really seem to solve a lot of the weird issues. Its pretty good for a mid level user.

I went from 5 to 7, not sure if I would upgrade if I was on 6 either.wrenhunter wrote:I have Sonar 6 PE and like it a lot. I didn't upgrade (yet) because it seems a lot of the changes involve MIDI, which I don't use much.
I upgraded for several reasons, auto latency comp is one of them, which remindes me, PT doesnt have it.

Absolutely love Sonar! I'm using version 6 and it rocks--track layers, easy automation, no hardware issues, runs fast and clean. I never use grouping tracks or console view and hardly ever use midi so who cares about those?
The Sonitus FX are great as are the bundled convolution reverb and you use all the VSTs that you want no problem.
Would love to be running PT also but woulod rather spend my money on more outboard gear.

3.1 rocks. The main things I would miss if I had to use 3.1 would be the auto latency comp and perfect space.mjau wrote:Still on 3.1!
Does 3.1 have the 64 bit mixing engine? (dang thats another thing PT dont have)

I think 3.x does have latency comp, but no, no 64 bit internal mixing engine. I'm all vintage and stuff.RodC wrote:3.1 rocks. The main things I would miss if I had to use 3.1 would be the auto latency comp and perfect space.mjau wrote:Still on 3.1!

This is the one thing I really want. I almost did it when they had the Dimension Pro special in February, but ... no scratch.RodC wrote:I upgraded for several reasons, auto latency comp is one of them, which remindes me, PT doesnt have it.
