I still use the E602 for almost every single session I do. For inside the kick, I simply have not found a microphone that i like better. I have tried many many mics in the kik.Really. many.
The only thing I really change during tracking is the resonant side mic, if any. I love the e602. It hears kick drum the way I do: big, with just the right amount of attack and punch, without the "plastic."
use it properly and you will stop looking for anything else as well. I have not used the AE2500. is it good?

Hey Joel,
Have you ever tried the 902? I definitely like the 904 better than the 604 and the 906 better than the 609 for in live situations (although I never use either in the studio...) But that doesn't mean the 902 is necessarily "better" than the 602.
Did the 902 not do the trick for you, or have you not heard it yet?
Your constant praise has put the 602 near the top of my "sh*t to try" list. Unfortunately there just seem to be so few of them out there in the studio world, so I haven't had the occasion to try either the 602 or 902 yet...
...oh crap, maybe I'll just buy one already!

I got the first version of the 602 about 9 months ago after reading Joel's suggestions. Mostly do punk, metal, loud stuff. Had been using either beta 52 or re20, occasionly borrowed d112, along with an at4047 out front. and yeah, since getting the 602, its been really awesome when I have to eq, i remove rather than add low end info. depending on whats stacking up on the specific track. So far, its been in the drum each time, moved around inside. when i finally got a dbx 160xt, results going to disk much faster.. and the past few projects have not used the 4047 as a "in front of kick" mic, but using the track space with either that mic or another as a mono room/in front of DRUM KIT mic, rather than "in the tent, in front of kik" application, because the 602 gives me what i need for the music style i usually record.

I seriously stopped looking after getting a couple of 602's, so no, I have not tried the 902. Regardless of the type of music, I use the 602 inside the kick.

Yes, I did try those when they came out years ago now. They are great mics! I always forget to pick one of those up. I am happy with what I have now. works well for me.

I got to audition an e602 recently, some guy a few floors up keeps his kit mic'd the same so he can record his rehersals.
It sounds like a "21st century D112", for lack of better terminology. He has an audix d6 too but it's too pointy for my tastes.
I'm picking one up this week. justin, you can borrow it for a few days to audition it once I get it, if you'd like; it's a must have IMO.

I've had the 602 for a year or so now. I'm getting together enough gear to open two studios, and the 602 was the first mic I bought for the second one as well. I've had so many compliments on kick drum sound and it tears the crap out of the d112 that I was using before.
@studioquotes "producer: turn the gain up just a tad" "guitarist: is that the same as volume?" "Producer: actually the last take was great!"
Anybody know the difference between the e602 and the e602 II? I seem to always be asking these questions, but the manufacturers websites never have this info...
I get satisfaction of three kinds. One is creating something, one is being paid for it and one is the feeling that I haven?t just been sitting on my ass all afternoon.

I've been using a cheap Superlux kick mic and getting great results, but I'm infinitely curious about both the e602 and the ATM250de or 2500 (they seem to be basically the same mic, or at least the same idea).
Both can be had on ebay quite reasonably. I love AT mics; I think they are a fantastic value. But I don't have any Sennheisers at all.
