problem getting signal from mic into pro tools

Post by dungeonsound615 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 7:15 pm

Well i'm new to pro tools so hopefuly you can tell me what im doing wrong

Im trying to just record using a microphone.

I opened a new session

opened a new track

specified 1 mono audio track in samples and clicked create

opened the mix window and clicked input audio path and selected analog 1 cause thats the mic input im plugged into

turned up the gain on the 003 rack talked into the microphone and nothing

dont see anything on the meters, hear any sound ETC

AS i said im very new to pro tools im sure its a routing issue or something so can anyone help me out,

Thanks
Mike

Is the track 'armed'? Did you click on the Rec button and is it flashing red?
Does the mic need phantom power?

turn on phantom power if it's a condensor mic. try other inputs on the 003. try another mic cable.

Phanton power is on even though i dont need it using a sm57 just to test everything, i will try another cable however tommorrow. I just feel like it has something to do with whats selected in the audio imput path should be be analog 1-2 if its input one im using or something else, sorry for such newbie questions

did you try my suggestion of testing the other inputs?

is there some sort of mic/line button on the front of the 003 you didn't push?

do you have any other mics?

do you have a multimeter to test the mic cable with?

Thats the thing i am reffering to the reference manual and doing what it says as far as i can tell and its not working, which is why i think its something with routing ETC.
