VS2480 or Digi002 Converters?
I've got drum tracks on a reel of 8 track 1/2" that I need to go into PT. Which A/D converters do you think are better? The ones on the Roland VS2480 or the digi002 (no Black Lion mod)?
I was leaning toward the Roland for sound, 002 for ease of conversion. What do you guys think?

I have not used the roland myself but have heard cds recorded on both and the cds recorded on the roland sounded like fingers on a chalkboard. No depth of tone at all.
If i were u i would just drop a min or two down on each and see what sounds better to you. I just couldnt imagine it being thr roland.
Good luck!

isn't all the sufjan stuff recorded on one of those Roland multitracks? That stuff sounds great!

Being stabbed would be much better as you're more likely to survive: less velocity of impact at the wound site, less chance of going into shock, no bullet to remove, no exit wound.Stabbed or shot....
So, obviously, go with the digi002. If you can get that Rosetta, then of course go with that, but even the stock 002 will kick the Roland's ass. Plus having it as a Pro Tools session means pretty much universal compatibility for studios.
Being that they both use the same converters and the 2480 uses 5532 opamps vs the 4580's in the Digi 002, how is the stock 002 kicking the Roland's ass?jessemesasavage wrote:but even the stock 002 will kick the Roland's ass.
The Digi 003 was "upgraded" with 5532 opamps.
Have you actually used a 2480 to draw these conclusions?
I have for 7 years with great success. To each his own.

And I don't see how having the session in a proprietary format is going to make the project more universally compatible.LDT2 wrote:but your straight tape transfers will be so much more useful as a pro tools session than as wav files that all start at the same time!jessemesasavage wrote: Have you actually used a 2480 to draw these conclusions?

Inviting anyone to check out tunes on billkahler.com - folky stuff all done on a 2480 with really good outboard pres. No fingernails and no chalkboard. If you know how to use one you can get great results. There is a pretty small margin of error as far as levels etc.
