I think its pretty decent for kick. Gets a nice Oomph sound, and it's nice to have some eq options built into the mic. A couple of things to beware of - you may need a pad; even when placed a few feet away from the kick it distorts my pre. Second, it requires phantom power, which is a little unusual for a kick mic. For 50 bucks do it.

I don't know about the blue kickball but I preferred the red kickball over the d112 the last time I recorded kick drum.

Not sure if you're yanking our chains, but the color of the mic is red, it's made by "Blue".

I was trying to distinguish between this and this.. Originally I thought Dave was referring to the former, but now I see it was the latter.

I think it's definitely worth the $50 that a lot of online stores are clearing it out for. I think it's ok on kick, depending on your taste. I like it better for tracking bass than kick actually. Last time I used mine it was as a second mic backed off a bit from the res head and it was a bit muddy for what I wanted but I didn't fuss with it much, it has a cut low boost and cut, just threw it up there for a backup to have more options (ended up using an SM7B through the sound hole on the beater). If you're asking whether it's worth the price, I'd say yes.

I've been using the Kickball since I picked one up for the $50 a few months back. It's replaced my Beta 52 on kick for just about everything I have recorded since... so yeah, it's a great little mic, especially for $50.

I had a thread on this when they first dropped the price about 4 months ago.
bullet points of that thread;
it does sound very good for the price.

It is very good on bass, and even electric guitar.

it has way too high output for a kick mic. Unless you are recording jazz or other quieter types of music it will likely overwhelm your pre.

Try it without phantom, it will still work, just without the extra gain of the preamp thats built in.

I might get a 2nd one.
