If you could have any walls...

Post by LeedyGuy » Fri Jul 18, 2008 1:19 pm

So I think that my paneled walls might have to go in the basement because of water damage.

What should I try to put up? I was considering some of that "green" insulation that is made of recycled jeans and then putting some fabric over it to make "walls." Any thoughts?

I wouldn't reuse or keep any materials like that in the house that have had water damage... they will always have some moisture inside creating odor and moisture... just be careful with that

Yeah, I know that stuff will always have moisture. I really should try to convince them that the walls are shot and need to be redone, but to be honest, there really isnt that much damage from water and paneling should dry out....SHOULD.....

Found a hole in the ceiling while repainting that was covered with tape. I touched the tape and it fell off the ceiling to reveal a hole chewed by mice and about a half a cup of mouse shit fell out of the ceiling. EW. I took off a plug switch cover to paint and mouse shit fell out of the wall. EW. Needless to say, I will have to live with these ceilings and walls forever for fear of dealing with an ungodly amount of mouse feces.

If you've got ANY moisture problems in your basement you want styrofoam insulation as the first layer. Foundation - styrofoam - then build your finished wall.

Styro- is the only stuff that inhibits mold growth. works like a charm.

mouse poop.... no good. Especially if you've got some damp. Ugh that'll turn into some sort of bio-chemical experimental lab and you'll be the guinea pig.

I say fire up the shop-vac, put on the respirator, get rid of the crap... get rid of the mice, plug up the holes and start fresh.

it will be well worth the effort.

good luck!

fund some new gear purchases: catch the mice and sell them on craigslist for people's snakes!
