Anyone know where to get one of those knob tools?

Post by allbaldo » Sun Jul 20, 2008 10:29 pm

I'm about to dig in to some old Sound Workshop Series 30 modules, and need one of those tools one uses to remove the knobs. I think they work on SSL's, AMEK's etc. There's on on ebay right now, but it's $60, which seemed high. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks!

I think you mean a collet knob tool?

I doubt if you'll find something specifically designed for removing collet knobs for very much less than the $60 one, but for way less than $60 you could go buy a flat head screwdriver and a file, then file the screwdriver to the right shape to do it.

I assume you've popped a cap off of one of your console's knobs already and verified that you can't unscrew them with a normal mini screwdriver? A lot of them can be.

sometimes, in a pinch, you can use the 'inside' measuring teeth of a vernier caliper to unscrew a collet knob...so long as it isn't on there too tight
