Don't get me wrong, they are well laid out, and super quiet (passive), and very flexible. So I don?t feel 3 years of constant use before the first problem popping up should be considered unreliable. The price is very, very good for what you get. You might just want to buy two.

Well, it's not like it's a guitar amp or something that you're abusing and throwing around in your car.

I think something that just sits in your rack, and isn't valve based or something weird and esoteric, and is brand new, should probably survive more than 3 years without issues.

When you say they died, do you mean they just stopped turning on, or was it something specific?

I'm not sure if passive components have more volatile materials than others, but it seem that way to me.

It has 3 pairs of TRS outs for monitors. One by one each output would get noisy, and then finally would stop working.

That?s it! Everything else stayed in Tip Top condition.

PreSonus was aware of the problem and was referbing units for $85, and claimed that the new units would not have the same issues.

Blurry picture of what the studio looks like :

New items, the Sync HD, the two Auratones, courtesy of someone here on TapeOp,
55" Samsung BluRay 3D screen and BluRay player (for serious scientific research),
iPod dock connected to patchbay and console, and the sound treatment behind the speakers which helps reduce reflections, and focuses the sound better.

And this is my son, Phillip. WATCH OUT RINGO!!! (note blue ring on left hand).

What are your thoughts on the Rooster? Curious about those mamma-jammas.

Here's a really shitty picture of my rack during a recent mix:

TTE + 1 of the Distressors, are unfortunately NOT mine, though a couple of very generous friends let me use them whenever I want, basically.

Not present is my Symetrix 501.

I've since begun the process of moving my stuff down to friend's studio, so we can share the space/equipment. Really excited about that. Doing some improvements to the space and all that fun stuff.

And here's an even shittier look at my [now former] messy apt. "studio":

I think it rules. I put up a review of it here which should be pretty easy to find as it's not a unit that's been talked about much. The EQ is really useful despite it's limitations and the drive circuit works really well. The headroom isn't what I'd call low, but it does clip a little sooner that most of the other stuff in the rack.

I love this thread and I'm glad finally to have something to add.

I'm going to keep an eye out for fabric remnants that will work on those white traps. I'm also thinking about a nicer chair..

i too am super stoked this thread is still going, i love seeing what kinda setups people are working with. my space has improved quite a bit since page 13, still totally hacked
together out of scrap materials but way sweeter, and dare i say sexier... blue led haters run for you lives though :D

Image
so this little room is pretty great but what's even better is that the little rack on the right hand side of my desk rolls around and disconnects from the rest of my setup in about
10 minutes, and i can then set it up anywhere in the rest of the 53500 sqft building im in (and yes i am lucky enough to have access to pretty much all of it)
and record whatever wherever. stairwells, bathrooms, big rooms, small weird rooms, you name it. here's a little photo example that was taken earlier this year
while setting up for some tracking. it was before i decided how exactly i wanted to finish the rack.
Image
it's definitely a very fun and useful setup, and i'm looking forward to turning a lot more material out now that everything is finally in order!
the tape is rolling, the ones and zeros are... um... ones and zeroing.
