audio splitting software?

Post by jamoo » Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:20 am

is there software that will take a stream of audio, allow you to split it manually by setting markers, then automatically save a new file for each section you've created?

imagine this is a waveform:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
..........A.............|.........B............|.........C.........|.....D...........

ok, these might not line up. but imagine i placed the three vertical bars manually. i want a 'POOF, MAKE FOUR FILES' button. have i luck?

audacity looks pretty good (i use an older sonar).

they all split well, but the trick is the export/file creation. on anything i've seen, it has to be done manually for each file -- a lot to do while archiving.

Makes sense now... That should be fun.

Dang, I know I had an app several years ago that did this. I know wave chop will do it but I cant remeber if it will name the files for you.

Ill look at my old downloads this eve if you havnt found anything.

thx. i've found a few progs, but they're mickey-mouse hacks that don't do the job. i should probably just troll it. sometimes you spend more time and effort trying to engineer problems away.

In ProTools, if you split up an audio file as you described, select all of them, and then hit Command-Shift-K, you'll get a dialog that allows you to export them all in one pass as separate files.

I think Recycle would do it. It's usually used to automagically detectt drum hits and split them out into individual samples, but I think you can overide that process and set your own markers. Don't know if it's got a file size limit as I haven't used it in years.
