Why does everybody hate ADATs?

The indefinable sense I had was the blackfaces had a rounder, more "back-porch" sound. You could hear the guitar player, you could hear the wall behind him.
The LX-20's were too damn "scientific" and had a way of highlighting detail at the expense of the whole wax ball. It was a bitterly accurate but two dimensional rendition of the music.
It did not help at all that the record enable buttons were offset from the track meters, whoever thought that would be okay gets my personal Mr. Dingus Award, and then slicing the timecode into 100ths of a second was maddening, and then the RCA outs were another whole set of cables that I needed to buy. Fiasco from start to finish!

The digico D5 console can use a coaxial cable with bnc terminal up to 300 feet long or a toslink cable, which costs about $9k. Nobody uses the optical cable for long.
I hear the optical cable and all optical transmission cables suck compared to regular wire as far as error rates are concerned.
