On alot of things, I favor it because it's usually lost. This is the kind of thing that as you're listening to your system from across the room, it becomes apparent.
Qualitatively listening for it and creating it, gives you a taller mix.
To my students I recommend they think in terms of a 'Mix Axis'.
X being frequency response 20Hz to 20KHz
Y being stereo spread Left<----->Right image
Z being front to back
Most have responded that lower frequency bass content creates 'depth' (subjective term) in a mix.
