Looks like you need some good vocal mics. You could get a good versatile LDD like the SM7 or you could go for a good middle of the road LDC with your budget. What do you use the D190Es for?

I was just curious because I have one of those. I have not used it much but the guy I got it from used to use it on drums for live sound. How do they sound on the sources you use them for?

Sell all the AKG's.

Get a Sennheiser e602 for kick.
Two ADK A6 for everything
Two AT 4041's for acoustic things.
One Avantone CK-12 tube LDC for vocals

Adding the money from selling the other mics you should be pretty close to pulling this off.

Of course this is just my .02 and what I like.

Other mics to watch for:
AT 4047
AT 4050
Heil PR 40

musicians are fuckers, but even worse are people who like musicians, they're total fuckers.

What are you going to record?

Thinking back to your last few sessions, what was you not happy with, or felt you had to work too much?

Another mic in your price-range is the shure ksm-44 lLDC. I got one for $400 on the eebay and it sounds great to me on a variety of sources, as well as offering the versatility of three polar patterns. You might also want to consider an inexpensive ribbon mic like a cascade fathead.

I record mainly indie rock groups. I thought a majority of the recordings sounded good, but the guitars and vocals could have sounded better. If you go to

http://www.myspace.com/saudisounds

you can hear 5/6 songs i did with these mics
Let me know your opinion on what I should look out for. thank bud

the Blue microphones Bluebird is a really versatile condensor in my opinion... if you can scare up another $100 or talk someone into a deal, you could get 2 for your budget. works for a lot of vocalists, really nice on guitar and kick drum. pretty much all the vocals on my band's newest record are through that mic... www.myspace.com/paperworkmusic

anything off "Parts and Labor" uses the Bluebird for vocals, bass, kick and part of the guitar sound... small mic closet so the good ones get a lot of mileage.

AT 4033

EV RE20

Those are two affordable mics that get used on lots of things in my studio.

and ps:

Why would anyone ditch the perfectly versatile AKG C3000b that has a handy -10db pad to get an ADK which strikes me as similar workhorse quality but has no pad.

unless there's an overriding need to have 5 of them, i would winnow the sm57s down to just 3.

if you actually need that many, then replace 2 of them with Audix i5s for the sake of variety.

my $0.02.

Dump the cheap akg condensor

hell dump all the akgs

e602 in place of the d112

instead of some "drum mic kit" from AT get the 4050 from AT. mono overhead.

use one of the 57s on snare

I can't think of any "drum mic kit" that sounds ballsier and cooler than an e602, a 57, and a 4050 overhead. The 4050 has true character as a mono drum overhead.

especially for indie rock. fuck micing the crap out of everything!

I'd get an sm81 for acoustic guitar. this is the only cheap condenser I've heard that has some balls, and is pretty good in many applications. Fuck most cheap condensers, deep in the ass.

+1 on RWC's comments, too! Love the 4050, on guitars, as well!

...and +1 on the Fathead suggestion. You're doing indie rock, get a ribbon or two, man!! These are almost perfect for indie rock sounds, and fatheads are great for the $$! I use 'em. A lot.

Lately been loving LDD's, too! Got me some MD421's, RE20's, D6's, D112, etc... I'm using them more often than condensers lately! Friggin' BEEF, man! Although I primarily work with hardcore punk, metal, grindcore, and stuff like that... I've done my share of indie rock, and like it a lot, toO!
Blah!
