Quick Pro Tools question

Post by Mr PC » Mon Oct 06, 2008 8:31 pm

Hey guys-

I double swear I tried looking this up in the manual.

I once knew how to select all of the "following" segments in a track. That is, all of the segments in the track for the rest of the song.

Say I want to nudge everything that is too the right sooner in time. Say I want a fill to crash a tad soon or something, but want the rest of the song to move as well.

I know I've done it, but can't find out how to do it again. Hope I made my question understandable.

Thanks-

PC

You could try making a big regions group of all the tracks and doing a cut at the crash. Then nudge the whole section up a little. Un-group the tracks. BAM!

I think you're referring to "SHUFFLE" mode in the top left corner of the EDIT window.

Click that and take out the snippet that you want to delete, and the rest of the track will close in the gap.

Thanks for the replies. I'm talking about moving things just a bit. I could indeed just drag and select everything that is to the right. I would be in slip mode. I guess I could select it all and nudge.

I swear there was a way to hit a modifier key and double click something or whatever, that would select everything that was to the right on the screen.

Thanks-

When I want to do this I either use shuffle mode or I shift-click from the region next to the edit to the end so I get all the material.

Now, I seem to recall a way to automatically select everything after your selection point, and I'm sure there's some kind of key combination that does it. I suggest R'ing TFM. Looking in the index for selecting, or Regions, Selecting or something like that.

Download the PDF and you can even search it!

I did give TFM a going over in the index under "selecting". I keep a pdf version in my dock.

I guess I'll give it another go--

Thanks!

Are you thinking of shift-opt return?

I think Apple A key combination will select all regions of a particular track. If it's part of enabled group, it may also give you all regions within that group, so be careful (I'm not sure on this, and don't have my rig in front of me so I can't say for sure.)

Also, not sure if you specifically don't want to move the stuff before you're selection, in which case this won't work for you.

Did you ask at the DUC?

They will know.

shift-command-right arrow?

Like in a text editor?

I'm not at the Pro Tools compooter right now, or I'd try it myself...

I've been to the manual again, and have asked at the DUC. Maybe I'm dreaming, I dunno.

Thanks for the replies.

Do you mean shift alt return?

That will select everything to the right of your cursor of whatever tracks are selected.
it's the opposite (alt) of pressing just shift return.

Hope that helps!

Damnit !

Thanks for the shift-option-return advice, that did it. Sorry I didn't take the advice sooner. I swear I remember it differently, like it involved a modified double-click or something.

boogers.

Thanks again-

Glad I could help.
Just returning the energy to the board. It's helped me many times.
