THAT is a question that needs to be answered before you buy it.tyler477 wrote:what is that brown mark on the 5th channel?

Oh, now, no big deal. It's probably just a stray turd. Should wipe right off. You might have to moisten it for a minute or two to dislodge it.Smitty wrote:THAT is a question that needs to be answered before you buy it.tyler477 wrote:what is that brown mark on the 5th channel?

Hard to tell, but my guess is cigarette burn mark. Like, someone set their smoke down on the edge of the board and forgot about it while it burned down an inch or so.Smitty wrote:THAT is a question that needs to be answered before you buy it.tyler477 wrote:what is that brown mark on the 5th channel?

I suppose the price isnt bad considering that you would only be able to get a cruddy Behringer mixer for that much. Though to be honest you rarely see mackie 1604's go fpor much more than $400 in brilliant condition.
I sold mine for $350 last year. Now I use outboard pres and monitor directly out of my BLA-modded 828MKII. (thats where the $350 from the Mackie went!).
Mackies are awesome live boards. Not so much recording. The mic pres are just kind of...limp.

you also aint gonna find a midas for $200 and change. You are comparing a $20k mixer with a $1k mixer. Dare I say Ferrari to Taurus?thunderboy wrote:"Awesome?"calaverasgrandes wrote:Mackies are awesome live boards.
A Midas XL4 is awesome.
A DigiCo D5 is awesome.
A Mackie is...not so awesome.

For a lot of venues and applications even a soundcraft is too big or out of budget. Fact is when the Mackie boards came out back in the 90's a lot of clubs experienced a tremendous upgrade by ditching their peavey/Biamp/whatever mixer in favor of the mackies. The mackies arent terribly fast sounding, and the eq isnt as "british" as some other boards. But hey they have 6 auxes, sound good for most sources, 4 busses (but no buss inserts?) LR and mono outs. The high pass fileter alone does alot in improving club sound. They also are firly ergonimc mixers and easy to get around on.
And the 1604's are more reliable than a lot of mixers I have used.
For recording I would reather have a soundcraft or allen & heath if I was going budget mixer. Heck even one of the rackmount yamaha PM series is nice.
