Just make sure to then reamp that to trigger another gunshot.

I think this thread should be made a sticky.
To MSE: new room? link?

yeah i've gone crazy and demolished/rebuilt practically my whole place. still a work in progress. the place is still mostly a disaster. but i got the new mastering room functioning enough to do a record for garges the other day and a couple singles today:
and the living/live room is at least inhabitable now:
i have so much still to do. please kill me. anyway, somewhat on topic, that snare on the far left of my kit just arrived at the house along with a visiting ex-roommate. an ancient leedy 13x3. the shell is more oval than round, but the genius drummer who lives upstairs gave it a little tlc, i finessed the tuning, sorta, and while it's no slingerland radio king, it's sounding pretty ok. and just lookit how cute it is:

Sweet snare! It is VERY cute. What year is it? I've picked up a '65 Leedy/Slingerland and a nice little Pork Pie...both sound pretty good.
I can't believe this thread is still going and going strong. That is awesome. haha

for some reason i thought of this thread the other day and had to dig it up to see if it was as funny as i remembered. it is.
i got another good snare pic, hang on...

Beautiful, beautiful.
I always wondered what it would sound like if I stretched snare wires across the resonant head of a bass drum.

i already took all that stupidity down...and i don't really have a functioning studio at the moment...but in the interest of furthering the silliness i will see what i can do.

anything, trust me. I worked for Soul Coughing for a couple of years. It was often thorough experimentation that brought him to some of his more unorthodox moves. And (sometimes) to his credit, the dude did not make snap judgments. I remember him being absolutely in love with a horrifically stretched set of snares for about a week once. Finally, after the sound engineer told him that he was forced to gate the shit out of it pretty much all night long, Yuval relented and let a new set go on.
But the 10" rack tom tuned really 'boingy' and set up to be played with the extension arm of a double kick pedal? That was pretty cool in some applications. (less cool in others...) And he put contact mics on his kick, two of his snares, and his hi hat, then ran them through effects and then through a Peavy Blues Classic guitar amp, and that was AMAAAAZZING!
