CineMag Responsiveness?

Post by antilog » Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:35 am

I've emailed CineMag, not getting a response. Any advice here? I'm pricing a mic transformer and would rather go with CineMag based on their reputation, but am now leaning towards Jensen... Maybe they only do wholesale quantities?

I've ordered from CineMag a few times over the past couple years, but they're extremely slow to respond to email requests, especially within the past 6 months or so. You may try calling and leaving a voice message, because I'm pretty sure they also don't answer the phone right away either.
I really like their products, and I'm sure they're very busy, but not responding to customer requests in a timely fasion (whether it's just a general query or an order) is a big turn-off.

Cinemag will definitely wind you traffos on a "onesy-twosy" basis. I've bought from them that way in past several times.

I've gotten fine response by calling them. I haven't done that in maybe 9 months though...
I thought this club was for musicians. Who let the drummer in here??

Ok, I'm just going to grab some Jensens from Markertek. No fuss.

Never had trouble with Cinemag.

Also, Lundahl is worth looking into, from K&K Audio....

I ordered a couple of mic transformers from these guys on a recommendation of a friend and they were very attentive and interested in my project (modding an old Ampex 600 tape machine).

I would gladly order from them again and the transformers sound great!

You gotta just call 'em a few times. If you can get them on the line, they will talk your ear off!

I got an email back from them, talking about custom transformers and such, talking long term. Wasn't looking to get complicated, just wanted 1 mic transformer.

I know this thread is old, but I sent an email almost a week ago, followed by another email. both to David Geren and no response. Their xfo's have a stellar rep though and I really want something domestic so I don't get nailed on shipping and conversion rates...

I'm building a P2P LA2A and the standard input and output Sowter's come out to over $200 together, and they don't even seem to offer the 1:4 input xfo that I'm after anymore. I think I can price two Cinemags to around $150, but I'm still waiting for a response.

Anyway, I'm going to give them a call -- I'm just glad I wasn't the only one who had this minor inconvenience.

They are moderately slow. But they do hand build each of their trannies...

Just ordered one and it took a few weeks. But well worth the wait.

For the record it took less then 2 weeks to get pricing info back from DG, no complaints from me -- if they're busy they're busy. But the quality vs. price is great.

they'll talk your ear off - phone is the best way to reach them -

they recently said they're really backlogged winding transformers for the military (awesome!) - my 2 output transformers are now 1 month and waiting to be wound...

...but for the price, they're awesome -

plus, they let you choose the nickel/steel ratio for your transformers - i'm going with a 50/50 split for a little easier saturation - I'm not running a super high gain clean preamp, so that insane Ni headroom isn't needed - save the metal for the military - then, we'll all get it 50 years later when they abandon it all!
