Hey,

Is the presonus studioLive going to be any good? Anyone tried one yet? The feature set looks killer.

the deal breaker is that it doesn't have motorized faders. at that price with no motorized faders, it'll be dropped in a year. especially when you can get something comparable for cheaper with automation...

what's comparable? I haven't seen anything with firewire I/O (accept the new Mackie boards) and a feature set like that.

Yamaha owns the digital board market. Presonus is blowing it hard with this piece.
NO MOVING FADERS!
Digital boards are useless with out this feature.

They are saying they couldn't do it with moving faders in this price point.
They didn't want to use cheap moving faders so they left them off altogether.

I predict minimal sales at best.

hmmm, well a used yamaha 02r. i just saw one on ebay for 900 bucks. and it is fully automated....

also, i have seen folks use yamaha aw4416's for controllers in their DAW's.

the yamaha 01v isnt a bad option either....and cheaper... very comparable if you arent too hung up about having fire wire.

I've been eyeing this Tascam digital mixer at a local shop for $300. How do you get the ADAT I/O in and out of a Mac for cheap?

But wouldn't the AD/DA, comp, pres, eq, etc., be insanely better on the PreSonus?

I have a tascam DM-24 and it kills the firepod on pre-amps and conversion IMHO. I don't think the pres in the studio live are any better amd likely they're worse.

Avoid the TDM-1000 like the plague, you will only suffer with that board.

I don't really like this presonus mixer deal, I think you would get a million times the bang for your buck with an 01v + adat card + RME/maudio/presonus adat interface. Yes you spend more money but you get SOOOOOO much more. And the yamaha is 32 channel freely routable digital mixer which also acts as a control surface.
Everything louder than everything else.

I like this board, actually tried it out in Boston. I don't think many contol surfaces are there yet. I like the fact that instead of putting flying faders they put the money into really good burr brown converters. With 22 channels of eq compression limiting gates, ect. This board will free up lots of cpu power for plugins. There is no latency and and no menus to flip though. Everything is right there. This board will be a favorite for lots of folks out there[/list]

I haven't used it but it's getting pretty good reviews over on PSW. Those that have it or have tried it seem to like it pretty well. Most of the people that bad mouth it haven't used it.
The lack of moving faders isn't a huge deal. When you recall a setting you just manually move the fader to where the led says to.
One thing I really like about it that is you can adjust the firewire output separate from the preamp gain.

I've used it extensively and I can say the lack of moving faders is NOT a big deal at all. They've made up for it, by having a locate button on the mixer, which tells you where the faders need to be on a recalled session. When in that mode, no signal changes on the fader until you exit out of it, so you can recall fader settings without affecting the current mix on the board.

Aside from that, it sounds great, very comprable to say higher end digital boards like the Yamaha LS9. The firewire record software it comes with is so damn easy too. It's a great digital mixer, I don't see it leaving the market anytime soon. The store I work at, we constantly sell out of 'em.

Beats out a Yamaha 01V any day.

Ya just to add to it, all the buttons are physically on the board, the only time you need to go into the top right menu is to adjust FX parameters or a few simple system settings. It's really easy to navigate.
