New webbing

Post by sad iron » Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:19 pm

Greetings true believers,

well, I have made it official-ish and registered a domain name and thrown up a website. I guess I am actually looking for new clients and stuff. I don't know why I'm telling you all this, but I just have to share. Suggestions welcome.

The humble beginnings....http://www.sadironstudio.com

Thanks to all those who have helped me figure out this move along the way.

I like the look. It's simple, loads quickly, and is easily navigable. That's appealing to me in a website.

Thanks man. I have to give props to iWeb. I tweaked on of the templates in there. Worked out kinda cool.

I'd much rathe see a site like that than one with some crazy flash stuff that takes forever to load and makes the whole site slow. Plus, if you can update it yourself, you'll be glad in the end.

Oh, I can update it myself all right. I just took down the porn a couple hours ago. Sad Iron has a whole different meaning in that demimonde.

In these days of fancy-ass flash sites and everybody's shit needs to have a fancy-ass little logo to show how slow and at what percentage that fancy-ass flash page is loading up, fast and simple is sooooooo refreshing.

Thanks, Drummerman, et al. Honestly, it wasn't my intention to go simple. I used to be a graphic designer/advertising guy and this just seemed like the way to go. I have little or no interest in Flash-y stuff. Do people think that folks are really impressed by that stuff. Mostly I don't think anyone notices it until it doesn't work right. Which it doesn't. A lot of the time.

Anyway, here's to hoping this is the first step to good times.

There's one tune on the Music page http://www.sadironstudio.com/Music.html

There's also a zip file of my high school/college band's second cassette circa 1990, but you don't need to concern yourself with that...

Pretty lean on gear, but what it has is consumer level, non-unique, Guitar Center stuff. Smacks of project studio. These were the norm for the industry many years ago. And the adats always sounded bad. At least the recorders have gotten better!

Photos make the place look like what it is too. A house that is lived in. Space says everything. I'd re-think your posted jpegs. Or maybe exaggerate what it is and make sure at least one has your family in it so the clients know that's what they'll be competing with as you work.

What's your plan to move in to significant, pro-level (not pro-sumer) gear over the next few years?

I'd keep your rate in the $12 to $15 per hour range too.

It's not my parade he's shitting on, trust me. I know what my place is and I'm not trying to say it's anything else. I won't defend my gear or my work to guys like him. Life's too short and the road to hell is paved with the self-important. I work with what I've got and make people happy when they come to my place.

What bothers me most is now the thread becomes about Jeff and not about anything constructive or useful to me or anyone else, which is what he wants. Anything, as long as it's about him.

Meh. Thanks for all the good feedback guys. It was nice while it lasted.
