Peavey >> 3 tubes mixed to stereo out ??

Post by cjogo » Sat Jan 17, 2009 6:24 pm

Thinking of buying a Peavey Tube Sweetener --- the only problem is there are 3 tubes ...so how does one keep a true stereo field ? There must be "bleed" as the mix runs threw all tubes ?? Trying to warmup & have gain :: between our Daw and a Masterlink

thanks

That depends on the structure of the tubes as well as what they're actually doing. Some tubes have 2 seperate halves, kind of like a dual opamp.

I'm not really familiar with this unit, but most popular preamp tubes used in prosumer gear are dual triodes, meaning that each tube contains two individual gain stages to it. This means that there are most likely six individual gain stages in the preamp, probably split 3 to one channel, 3 to the other. No shared gain stages, true stereo.

An early report from Harmony Central "One negative: Because one of the tubes is shared by both channel one and channel two, there is some very slight sound bleed from channel 1 into channel 2 and vise versa. I tested it out, so that's why I noticed it. With normal use, you couldn't tell" 3 12AX7 TUBES

I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing.

Only if you were hoping to have real separation of your instruments and then they blend /phase together at the end.
