Intel Blockfish replacement

Post by madtho » Sat Jan 24, 2009 7:46 pm

Hi all.
I finally had to move on to an intel Mac, and my VST folder is a withered shadow of what it used to be. It's probably for the better. I didn't need all that stuff anyway.

But for Blockfish. All the threads here just sing its' praises and woe its' demise, but offer little for replacements. I don't use Logic, so that compressor is out, I use Vintage Warmer, but really, I like just a couple knobs that do alot. You know what I mean.

Real cheap would be nice, too. See Intel mac purchase above ^^.

OK, thanks

The Rocket. Check out all of the Stillwell plug-ins, they are the best plug-ins that I've ever used. I'm ditching Waves for them.

The guy who made Blockfish, Spitfish, and Floorfish has made it clear he's not updating them. Meaning there's no Universal Binary for them, nor will there ever be. If you're a Mac user with a Power PC, this means when you eventually - be it 2 months or 20 years from now - upgrade your Mac, you won't be able to use Blockfish. I don't know about their Vista/Windows 7 compatibility, as that's not my neighborhood.

So 'demise?' Maybe that's not the best descriptor. But how about 'orphaned?'

Thanks for the clarification. I'm running XP on my DAW and I did build a Vista machine to play around with and I'm pretty sure I did some mixes where Blockfish was used and it ran ok but I'm not positive now. I've since flattened that machine.

OK, maybe not demise, but I still can't use it. I guess I don't know much about the coding world, but I'm kind of surprised he doesn't turn these plugs loose for someone else to maintain, it's obvious that there's at least a small market for them.

I'll the Rocket a shot.

any more?

thanks

Yes: Audio Damage's Rough Rider (free)

http://www.audiodamage.com/

There is a pro version that sounds like it will do whatever the Rocket can't to get you closer to that holy grail of Blockfish. As far as I know though there are none that boost the high/air frequencies like BF did.

BTW, I'm right there with you having recently gone Intel.

no direct help on the blockfish (which I also sadly lost), but when I upgraded to intel i lost all my free MDA vsts that I had in Tracktion. just realize that they have free universal binaries (for intel macs) of all of them here http://mda.smartelectronix.com/

some of these little guys are quite useful and decent.

We're talking AU updated, Intel specific. Not gonna happen.

I miss the spitfish plug as well.
Righteous on hats too.
Any kool de-essers you've run across (for intel)?

I use mine on new intel Imac running Tracktion which is a VST Daw. The Mac OSX VST version is what I use.
I use logic too but it wont work on that of course. They have an AU version but I haven't even tried it.
