Humanizing MIDI in Garageband?

Post by caz » Mon Jan 26, 2009 8:16 am

Hello my dear TapeOppers,

I am living betwixt Detroit & Chicago at the moment and I do a lot of Amtrakin'. I purchased the incredibly miniature Korg Nanokey to sketch out tracks while traveling. Being relatively new to MIDI and Garageband, I am wondering if one of you more seasoned types could offer some guidance? Is there a way i could humanize a MIDI track in Garageband? I know some MIDI-scoffers will say, "get a human to play it," but I am playing all the bits, but at times would like to quickly copy a part and layer another octave or instrument without it being in exact time as the original.

Any help would help,

To my knowledge there isn't a "humanize" feature in GB, but you can quantize midi tracks with the "fix timing" button, so one thought would be to play the original track without it, then copy the track and "fix" that one... might create the effect you are looking for.
