My Line 6 DL-4 is done for. I want something new

Post by Brett Siler » Wed Jan 28, 2009 11:19 pm

So after years of abuse my Line 6 DL-4 finally bit the dust, I actually had it for almost 10 years! I am afraid to buy a new one because all I hear about is how unreliable the new ones are. My friend bought one and after a year it died. So that means I have to get something new, but the only problem I have some songs that I have written that rely on the "sweep echo" setting on the pedal. So basically I am looking for a delay pedal that will get that sound. I heard Behringer makes a pedal that has that sound but the casing is plastic, is that gonna with stand touring and me literally stomping on them? Is there one one else that makes a pedal out there that can get that sound?

that model is basically a fake tape echo with a sweeping LPF on the repeats.

might be time for two pedals.

maybe something with both dry and effect-only outputs?

put the filter on the effect-only out and then recombine with a tiny passive mixer.

maybe use a phase shifter instead of a swept LPF?

just thinking out loud.

People seem to love this pedal -- http://www.empresseffects.com/superdelay.php

It is spendy but it is a great company. I have their trem. It has a LPF and a HPF but not sure they sweep. I have a l6 too and not sure what I would get if it breaks. Other new ones people seem to like are the tc electronics and eventide. But if you really just need that 1 sound there is probably a cheaper, more specific pedal for you.

Okay, that's cool! Sadly, these are not the days of $400 pedal purchases. I have a Boss dd-20. It does basic delays pretty well if you ask me. It doesn't do whackness though.

Boss DD-3 with a Small Stone on the effect-only out.

DD-3 can do whacked out.

the dl4 is my all time fav pedal.

but, out of the 8 i've owned, 6 have died.

i've started to branch out, and i have tried just about every pedal out there to try and replace the dl4.

only 1 has come close.

the eventide timefactor.

for about $300 used, it's the greatest thing ever.

it doesn't have the loop abilities that the dl4 has, but you can really dial in any other setting without fail.

worth looking into.

I just listened to the demo of the Eventide Timefactor and the Band Delay setting is pretty much the same sound as the Sweep Echo sound.

I have a Zoom G2 and I have come close to emulating the Sweep Echo sound but its not quite there.

Some of the other pedals mention are pretty amazing but I am definitely looking for a specific sound.

I am loving all the sugestions, keep em comin!

great points for the timefactor---

it runs two delays at once. awesome.
usb updates from eventide.
expression pedal or aux footswitch jacks.
exact bpm display.
midi sync.
SOUND QUALITY.
seriously.
:)

damn... sounds cool

I wonder if there are any other options that are out there that does the "sweep echo" sound, that aren't as expensive?...

the line6 echo park does the sweep as well as a bunch of other modes. just only one at a time. in my opinion it sounds better than the DL4 that i used to have.

an echo park for the sweep sound paired with a boss dd20 could be found for less than 300 if you look around and is a really versatile combo.

I have a dd-3 but no small stone.. maybe I could try and borrow one from someone and check it out...

I also haven't had power at my house for the past few days because of an ice storm, so I can't test any of this stuff out. I'm at my parents cruisin the interweb.

true but is it reliable? I don't trust buying another DL4 so I'm not sure about the Echo Park, the case looks good but what bout them guts?

I have one of those, it's fantastic.
Ironically, I just sold my DL-4 as I didn't want both anymore, having an analog Memory Man as well, but kept this blue MM.
