Best affordable noise/buzz/hum reduction software/plug-in?
Best affordable noise/buzz/hum reduction software/plug-in?
I got me some seriously buzzy single coil type guitar tracks here that are in desperate need of dynamic noise reduction (or hum canceling might be cool).
Yes of course they should've been recorded with less noise, but the takes are a done deal and now it's time to deal with them in the mix.
I think it's Waves that I've heard has the very effective but crazy expensive noise killing software, so I'll have to pass on that action.
What else is the good stuff, either standalone OSX or as an AU or OSX VST plug-in?
Thanks.

If you have a sample of just the hum, you can download a trial copy of Adobe Audition and use their noise reduction software. I think there's a bunch of new plugins that may help you get rid of the hum even if you don't....
... of course, you can buy it too- IMHO it's totally worth it!

Try ReaFIR, included in Reaper, or available as a free VST plugin in the ReaPack:

You'll want to use it in subtraction mode, see here:

Y'know I had gone to their website to try'n get the skinny on that one, and it looked like it mainly did static filtering for hum/buzz type noise, which is not what I'm looking for. Or maybe I was misinterpreting the description - I might have to revisit it, so thanks for bringin' it up.Waltz Mastering wrote:I've heard some very good things about the Izotope Rx

The other ones mentioned so far are ones I hadn't thoughta yet, so I'll check them out, even if there is some Windows only stuff there - thanks.
You can filter buzz/hum using their dynamic noise reduction, as well. In fact, you can separate tonal from broadband noise with their denoiser.Y'know I had gone to their website to try'n get the skinny on that one, and it looked like it mainly did static filtering for hum/buzz type noise, which is not what I'm looking for. Overall, Rx is an amazing package. Totally worth the money.

I've been using Acon Studio Clean. Very happy with it, and it's very affordable.
