Decent cassette deck recommendations?

Post by DryCounty » Sat Feb 07, 2009 4:55 pm

What is the consensus on cassette decks for transfer of old material to DAW?

My 'trusted' Tascam 112 deck bit the dust and I'm pretty sure the motor is shot.

Thanks in advance!

Alesis TapelinkUSB? I haven't seen any reviews, but it's a cool idea.

Nakamichi MR-1 if you need pitch control. If you don't then the Nakamichi Dragon is well revered.

Hey Erik, if you're in a pinch and need to get some stuff transferred i've got both tascam and denon decks just sitting around over here that are in nice working order (well they were the last time i used them at least) and have balanced xlr outs in addition to rca, tape speed control, dolby nr... all that fun stuff. let me know if you want to borrow one until you find your dream deck, as they aren't seeing a ton of use.
the tape is rolling, the ones and zeros are... um... ones and zeroing.

Ah shizzle thanks Dave I would have totally taken you up on the offer but I managed to score another Tascam for $50 via ebay -- you never know I might want to use it someday to do some transfers out of digital.

Thanks for the offer and all the suggestions though, folks!

I've owned 2 Denons and I think they are the best sounding decks I've heard for what they cost. My last one had Dolby B&C plus the HX Pro circuit. I still have access to that one when I need it but my partner keeps it at his place for doing transfers.

I bought a Nakamichi Cr1A from Classic Audio a few months back. It's a very stable, no frills playback deck with a good transport. It's served me well for archiving old cassettes.
