Is there a substitute for WAVES Renaissance Bass/MaxxBass?

Post by percussion boy » Wed Feb 11, 2009 9:03 pm

Hey . . .

Is there any other plug that does the same trick as the WAVES bass plugs?

Basically, they seem to generate overtones which are multiples of the superlow stuff, so that the bass end of a mix shows up better on small speakers.

I used to have Maxxbass and it performed as advertised -- not the same thing as using EQ somehow. However, WAVES looks to be a pita to deal with these days, so no burning itch to re-buy the real thing.

I have Cubase 4 and Sonar 7, haven't really gone through all the onboard effects. Or I could buy something.

Thanks for any thoughts.

PSP MixBass is good. Sounds huge on kick.

Yeah, I like PSP mixbass too - unfortunately it comes as part of a $200 bundle and I can't say I use the rest of the bundle very much.

So we're looking to generate harmonics of the low frequency content? Sounds like distortion to me. I do this fairly often.

Extremely simplified version you could check out is x-cita, only high and low contour, but it's free.

+1 PSP MixBass.

I also use the PSP MixPressor and MixSaturator, it's all in the bundle, along with MixTreble.
By far one of the best purchases I've ever made, plugin wise...

I sometimes use distortion or even a Sonic Maximizer. Also used Ozone harmonic exciter by making a band in the desired range and add harmonics to it.

I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to give love to Mix Saturator. I use it on snare all the time. Love Mix Saturator.
