Dead Oktava MK-012-01?

Post by aemaury » Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:53 am

ive got an oktava MK-012-01 that just work right. phantom on, new cables. the funny thing is, with enough gain, if you tap on the body of the mic, you can get some sort of transduction. but clearly, the screw-in capsule and diaphragm arent picking up anything.

any thoughts? do you think i just need a new capsule?

thanks!!

Could be the capsule, could be a bad solder joint, or a bad capacitor (or other component).

I had to deal with the exact same thing recently. I opened up the mic and found a loose solder joint from where the capsule connectors went to the PC board.

Took just a few minutes to fix, might be that simple for you as well.

Isn't there something odd about turning those little screws for taking that mic apart? Can't remember what it is, but I remember something odd about it.

Yeah, if I remember correctly you have to screw them into the body, then slide the housing out.

Screw the tiny screws *in*, yes. Out causes damage.

I fixed one of those mics for somebody last year, and one of the problems was that the capsule contact wasn't making contact. If you look through the clear plastic on the back of the capsule, you should be able to see a couple of metal tabs that make contact to the backplate of the capsule. Make sure those are actually touching! If things are desperate you can unscrew the clear plastic bit to get at the tabs and bend them back into position.

Yeah, just send it to me and I'll keep it. ha ha.
It's fixable.
