Upgrading MacPro system
I'm going to upgrade my MacPro to ProTools 8.
The computer is a 2.66 dual processor MacPro currently running OS X 10.4.9.
I want to upgrade to 10.5.4 and my MacBook has that system software with it.
I can't seem to find the software anywhere else, so the question I'm asking is
will the system disk I got with the MacBook work with my MacPro?
Thanks in advance,
Jesse

Most likely not, as the bundled install software is usually for the specific machine. Check the disc and see if it says for Macbook Pro only.

Have you ever gotten that to work? I've tried before and never could.lysander wrote:Boot your MacPro in FireWire Target Disk Mode, and connect it to your MacBook. Put the MacBook system disk in the MacBook, and choose to install the system on the MacPro hard drive.
edit: If I remember correctly I couldn't see the optical drive of the target disk machine, just its hard drive contents.

Ahhh... Can you use Carbon Copy Cloner to create a boot drive between two computers? I've been able to do that on two drives in my G5.
I think that the MBP install is simply that. For $80 you could have a copy of 10.5 via ebay and upgrade it for free via Apple's website.

You don't use the optical drive of the target disk computer -- in this case, he uses the MacBook, and then installs on the MacPro disk which connected by FW target disk mode.palinilap wrote:Have you ever gotten that to work? It has worked for me before.
Ah, I see what you're saying. I had it backwards.lysander wrote:You don't use the optical drive of the target disk computer -- in this case, he uses the MacBook, and then installs on the MacPro disk which connected by FW target disk mode.palinilap wrote:Have you ever gotten that to work?
