beyer 740N CK 12 capsule
Hello all,
This is my first post...
A reseller told me that the famous brass CK 12 capsule, found originally in the AKG C 12 microphone, is actually a Beyer design, and that beyer 740N series mics also use a CK 12 brass capsule.
Is this true?
do MC 740n P48 also have a CK 12 capsule?
thank you tape op!

Re: beyer 740N CK 12 capsule
I have two Beyer MC740s. The capsule in there is slightly smaller than the capsule inside my friends C12 or inside my C414 and it looks different.
Due to luck and circumstances i am offering a limited run of Beyerdynamic M380 clones with unused Beyer capsules. PM me for info.

And there you go, somebody who's done the comparison. This is a great forum!!!
I have a mic I built from Microphone Parts that has their version of the C-12 capsule. I don't have any basis for comparison with a real C-12 capsule but it is a fantastic sounding microphone. Their T-12 kit, you won't dislike it.

Re: beyer 740N CK 12 capsule
And i even had the C414 from the era when Beyer started making the MC740
Regarding mics and brand names: i went through a lot of the famous ones and mostly had more than one of them to try.* Some of these did it for me, some didn't. Then made a lot of money selling those that didn't and which you could consider "investments". My place is no museum nor a gear hall of fame. Whatever does the job - old, new, rare, common, whatever. People don't see the recall sheet with the mic list when they listen to the stuff. Most people that come through the door don't recognize faceplates on gear. If the stuff is expensive, fine. If it isn't, also fine. I have to decide what to use so i have fun while i'm at it.
*shameless bragging: i had nearly 20 AKG D12s. Sold them all. I could have kept the one that sounded as good as the D20 (selected capsule version of the D12) but then again, i don't need two of them. All this could be completely different for you, so you decide.
