Rane DC24 compressor/gate

Post by cleantone » Wed Mar 11, 2009 7:16 pm

Anyone use one of these units? Care to share our thoughts?

It has that crossover thing in the middle. What is that all about?

Any and all info welcome.

Hey Man
The crossover is for running the DC24 as a Dual Band compressor, its kinda neat actually, especially on room mics.

I tend to use just the limiter section on things like outside kick drums and bottom snare mics. things that can do with some truly brutal compression. i actually really like this unit and think its underrated. there are lots on eBay apprently.

Hope this helps

They're great as a compressor for bass guitar as well. I like mine a lot.

Kick drum is nice too. I usually set the crossover around 160-250Hz, resulting in a tight bottom end (6:1, 6-12dB GR) with an open, dynamic top end (2:1, 0-3dB GR). Works almost as well as a TC Electronic Triple-C.

For a contrasting opinion, I have one hooked up and I hardly ever use it. It does have a usable crossover and it does kind of work. I just need it to do more if I reach for a tool like that. To me, it sounds kind of meek.

But I can certainly appreciate better engineers than me getting sounds out of it.
I'm a bad man!
