i need a $200-300 bass limiter
i used to have a 166a on loan but i'm looking to fill the slot permanently, and possibly a little better. have been looking at the RNLA and have checked the search for you folks' thoughts on them, but didn't really get any hits that were bass specific. any thoughts re: bass through the RNLA?
any better options in this range? i'm not looking for something i "might be able to get a deal on if it ever comes up on ebay, maybe," i'd really like something that can be at my house in good working condition in a couple of weeks.

"While every effort has been made to ensure optimum sound quality, priority has been given to historic content and importance."
Some people really dislike the fmr stuff on bass, it seems that the bass frequencies don't play well with it's detection. A dbx 160a would be really good if you can stretch to $400 (open box units go for $350 shipped on ebay, there's a few there now, you can even "make an offer"). An art vla pro for $300 wouldn't be bad, but it's not as flexible or uncolored. A Joemeek mc2 or threeq.

The RNLA works nicely on bass. I'm running the bass through the DI on my UA 710 and into the rnla and it got awesome tone. I've ran in through and ART Tube MP into the rnla too with good results. There are alot of other options and it depends on how much you want to spend. The DBX 160a sounds great on bass and it can be had used in your price range. But the RNLA is pretty versitile too. Sounds great on vox as well.

Yes. Potentially lightning fast limiting on a cl-52, high ratios for limiting, clean but toney. 160x or 160xt, yes. DBX 163x is also a good friend to bass and is cheaper than these other options. Isn't a limiter per se, as it does a fixed semi-adaptive attack and release, but often just does something musical even so. I use those for DI bass often enough.getreel wrote:I like my ashly CL-52 for bass better than my RNC, DBX 166, or any of the other stuff. Very good sound and control. I got mine for $75 7 years ago but they go for $200 or so lately when I've seen them for sale.
The aphex punch factory is also surprisingly good for bass, not a fast limiter but has nice opto snap tone, way outperforms its cheap price. It's more fragile than I'd like for stage use though.
