I'm doing a session on Thursday and I'm really hoping that these get here in time.
Any favorite uses for these? I'm thinking of using them as a lo-fi alternative to the Geffell M930's I'll be using as room mics.

Now you can start your own TV news crew.
I use m 635a's anywhere I'd put a 57. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but it never sounds bad. I like them electric and acoustic guitar, as a heart mic on drums, sometimes for vocals, upright piano, under snare, bowed saw. They can be pretty decent as a room mic too.

sweeeet. i can't wait. i had been looking to pick up one and was doing my routine ebay search and stumbled upon the auction.
wondering how it'll sound on the snare instead of a 57.

Definitly a good deal there. The other day I was using one in a mixer with global phantom. When I engaged phantom for a different mic I think I started getting some crackle or fuzz in the 635. Anyone have that problem before? I think I ended up moving the condensor to an outboard pre to keep moving ahead real quickly.
You got a heck of a deal there!

Good thread on the actual heart mic (it's actually the "heart" of the drum kit):Dave Stanley wrote:Heart drum mics? Is that a mic placed in the drummer's heart/chest area?
Sounds like a cool trick!

I think people have done what you've suggested e.g. a PZM taped to the chest or mic behind the drummer's ear/head.
earliest instance i am aware of took place in 1978.kayagum wrote:I think people have done what you've suggested e.g. a PZM taped to the chest or mic behind the drummer's ear/head.
i could be misidentifying it, tho.

I toured North America playing keys with those guys for their Reconstruction Site tour and then did some engineering for their last record (Reunion Tour). I did most of the final overdubs before mixing - horns, some guitars and keys, percussion, and other odds and ends. I also tracked most or all of the spoken word song (who's name I can't remember, Doh!). Great guys. My band stole their rhythm section for a few years. Good times.
Ok, sorry for the digression, back to the original post.
