Using a plugin EQ and a DBX hardware compressor (via sidechain jack) - can Frequency specific compression (and ducking, etc...) can done in Pro Tools?
Any info on this would be great.
Thanks.

Im no pro tools expert, but to route through your daw to get to the EQ will introduce some Latency. If you can live with the lost time you may be able to get it to work. I wouldnt count on any fast attacks

The way I can see it working, is if you have the dbx on an insert on your track in PT. Take the track or buss that has the eq on and that your using as a key and set it's output to anything other than what's already being assigned as an output in PT.
So if everything in PT is set for 1 and 2 out and the dbx is on insert 3 , use output 4 on the track or buss used as the key signal to the input key on the dbx.

PTLE or HD? What interface box?
Yes, this is do-able with any of those, but the specific patching and needed tweaks may vary.
In any case, use an out to send audio to the compressor, another out w/eq to send to the sidechain in, and an in to get the return from the dbx back in. Any kind of de-essing or ducking is possible, and isn't hard. How you would specifically time align depends of your platform.
