E.V. RE10=best thing ever?
I know this is not original, but the RE10 I borrowed has been hot in all of the work I'm doing this month. SUCH awesome guitar tones, and some surprisingly great vocal tones. I was recording vocals for this country band with the RE10 through my Symetrix compressor, my room mate was sitting in on the session and he asked "Why do the vocals sound so good?"
I might even like it better for those purposes than the RE20, but that's probably cause it's just a new find in the mic locker.

All the "RE" series is pretty awesome. I had an RE38 for years that I wish I didnt get rid of... Its a great mic for a BUNCH of things.. like the SM7, but kind of weird with like 97 selectable frequency plots on the back. It can really be a cool thing though, choosing " slight hi mid rise with rolloff" or "slight low mid bump with top end boost and rolloff..."

The story I've read is that the 10 & 11 used capsules that weren't quite good enough for the 15 & 16. If I remember the plots correctly, the 10 & 11 don't have as much high frequency extension as the 15 & 16.losthighway wrote:They all look so similar. I wonder what the difference in sound is. .
The other part of the story was that sometimes EV didn't have enough inferior capsules, so the 10 & 11 sometimes got capsules with the same response as the 15 & 16.

This'd probably provide all the answers.losthighway wrote:What's up with their condensers? I've spotted a RE2000 and 1000 on Ebay and just had no idea of what one could expect from those.

I've been recently tempted to grab an RE2000 for vocals only but haven't yet plucked up the courage.
I used to be a digit, now I'm just-a-log.
