50k fantasy studio
Let's say I have a rich uncle that's gonna be dead soon. And he's told me I'm his favorite nephew. And let's say I'm going to spend it all in one place regardless of conventional wisdom.
What would your 50k studio be made of?

Agreed. Space is a rare and beautiful thing.
Buy two of these (http://www.mhsecure.com/v5mm/ULN-8.html), cabling, and spend the rest on the space.

Welcome to the dessert of the real. Would you like some coffee with that?

I'm kind of hoping for more gear suggestions. Let's assume that space and operating costs and all that kind of thing are not an issue.
I mostly want to build it to record my stuff and my friends stuff. But I want it to sound as good as possible for around 50k.
For the record: This studio is not intended to be a commercial venture.

question is: what dream gear do you have already? if this is just a fantasy, then the fantasy "should" be fairly limitless.joelmoore wrote:Good suggestions so far. Any thoughts on Consoles? Tape Decks? Mics?
for me, i'd like a nice solid console like a trident 80b, a couple of 1176ln's, la2a's, a pair of 3124+, about 4-8 1073/1081 modules. a pair or 414's, finding a telefunken u47 and elam 251. a pair of km84's. good solid drum mics like the d112, md421, sm57 variety. and a protools hd rig with a control 24 just for mixing. toss in a pair of ns-10s and tannoys. maybe an sm7b and there you go. should be cose to the $50k budget in some way(probably more).
great modern studio with classic gear.

Console: Audient ASP8024 that's for sale on Gearslutz for $15,000 that includes all the cabling and two 96 point patchbays.
Compressors: Chandler TG1, Purple Audio MC77, pair of Distressors
Reverb: a plate of some kind
Monitors: Focal Twin6 Be monitors
Preamps: Chandler TG2, API 3124+, pair Vintech X73i, Avalon U5
Microphones: AEA R84, Royer SF-12, Neumann U87, pair of Gefell UMT-70S, 4 AKG C414EBs, Shure SM7B, Telefunken ELA-M 251, Sennheiser e602, couple SM57s
I think, if I bought some of that stuff used, I'd have about $4000 left to spend on a used Digidesign HD rig and a computer. Hopefully, the used HD rig would have an iLok with some decent plug-ins. If I had any money left over, I'd grab the following plug-ins:
Sonnox Transient Modular
SoundToys EchoBoy
Massenburg DesignWorks Hi-Res EQ V.3
Altiverb 6
