Mating perils of the tapus likesmellicus

Image

Photo of Tapus Likesmellicus magnified 47 times actual size.
Once thought to be nearing extinction!

And here, the odiferous and colorful female of the species,
which when in season is known to give off a scent highly
reminiscent to that of the oxide formulations used in analogue tape.
Image
This attractant similarity is chemically so close to the females natural pheromone as to cause
scores of male tapus smellikusi to flail themselves at the reels, most pungent at the point where the oxide coated face separates from the reel proper to travel through the tape deck transport. This instinctive location choice often results in the unintentional entombment of the fly within the reel, resulting in the death of the fly and dropouts whenever it occurs.

Did it fly into the transport? Was it in a new reel?
