adat into my 'puter

Post by megajoe » Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:16 pm

I want to transfer tapes from an LX20 to my computer. I'm looking for something that is as simple as ADAT to usb or firewire, minus all the mic preamps and other gadgets such a device normally comes with. I'm having trouble finding something like that.

Does it exist?

I was looking for the same thing and couldn't find it. I guess the m-audio "light bridge" or whatever it is, does that, but it's expensive and some people have slammed it in reviews and whatnot.

Someone recommended to me to get a MOTU 2408, used on eBay. I've got one coming next week. (Hopefully)

If you want to avoid all the "extra stuff" due to cost, check out the 2408 Mk1 for ~$100 on ebay.

Oh, wait. That'll only work if you've got a spare PCI slot. IE, not laptop.

I had a Terratec EWS 88D that I used to transfer tracks from an ADAT to my DAW. It was pretty simple and worked fine. Long out of production I'm sure but if you can find one it's about as bare bones as you can get for use with a single ADAT

Do you have PCI slots? Look into the RME Hammerfall cards...some have ADAT & SPDIF, nothing more.

Presonus also make a box that does ADAT-Firewire, but it's 32 channels.
