Looks like I can finally afford an SSL console

Price around $2900.

Kind of a glorified summing box with inserts. Might be nice for the project studio. Discuss.

Whatever.
Anyone want me to write "NEVE" in sharpie on the upper right hand corner of their 6 channel tapco mixer?

All sarcasm aside,
This sort of thing could be cool. I dont know... BUT, I do want to know how the mainstream marketing and business model infected the pro audio market so effectively, so I can do the same thing to the vintage italian motorcycle market and get a 1972 ducati 750 super sport for 28 dollars. even if it does come with a 20cc motor made by 12 year olds that are chained to their machines, and shoots molten lead out the tailpipe.... as long as it says "ducati" on the tank, I will buy it.
It wont go fast, or be reliable, or do anything the original does... but it has the name, and a vague resemblance to actual pro stuff... so it must be awesome.

this ssl unit is useless... i can think of a ton of gear i'd rather have for $2900. ssl will overprice themselves right out of the market.

Scott Solter's old place "Division Hi-Fi" had a 'Ghost' console with a piece of white paper over the 'Ghost' then written with sharpie "Neve" I have to say it sounded better because of that

Shouldn't you guys listen to it before you hate on it? It might be a good step up from a 1402.

I'm sure that it will be a huge step up sonically from a Mackie. But, feature-wise, this is still just a really nice mini-mixer.

That's my problem with it. No EQ.

why the hate dudes!? Someone could do some damage with that thing I bet. and why should SSL re-brand as something other than SSL it if they made it? i think it's purty damn smart to try and snag some of the home-recordist/project studio market. it's the new way engineers come up now, no? brand loyalty and all that.

i saw this a while back on that other forum. granted, if i had fifty grand to spend, i wouldn't be of the mind to purchase all the outboard stuff used in this example, and then mix it thru an xdesk. but, it does show the way one could use it in clever fashion. like, yer average project studio dude(ette) could substitute less expensive pieces in a similar fashion and get some shit done well, I'm sure.

Dear SSL, please send me one. also, all that other stuff in that gearslutz post. and some coffee too please, while i'm asking.

I do kindof pity the fool that buys that thing thinking it's a full on mixer.
