Is it possible to take the reverb tank out of my Peavey amp,
and turn it into a reverb unit for recording? Not unlike those Boss and Roland ones?
etc.
I really need a reverb but don't want to shell out $300+ for one of these on ebay, and I'm not interested in digital. Would this be more effort than it's worth, if it could work?

You could do it, but you would have to build a driver preamp, and a pickup preamp. It wouldnt be plug and play.

Paia's Hot Springs revrb kit has been around for years and was designed by our pal Craig Anderton. $101 for the kit (needs PS).

If you're at all concerned with the future value of the amp, taking the tank out might effect that.
And reverb tanks run about $20-ish...they're readily available.
They don't sit alone very well. They want some circuitry to help drive them and recover the output signal. The Accutronics web site has a number of schematics for such:

is this just a tank or does it actually come with some sort of chassis? i'm after something like the units mentioned above, that i can use as an effect for recording and possibly even rackmount, with some modification. i don't want to use this in a guitar amp, it will be mostly for vocals.TapeOpLarry wrote:Paia's Hot Springs revrb kit has been around for years and was designed by our pal Craig Anderton. $101 for the kit (needs PS).

It's a kit, comes with 2 reverb tanks, circuit boards and parts to build pre and post amplifiers. You'll need to make a case and find or build a power supply (12 V +/- I think). You could look around for used Master Room, Orban or Furman reverb units too. I have a Demeter Real Reverb but that's kinda pricey. Damn good though.

If you don't mind some DIY (as the PAIA would be) and you've got some mic preamps laying around, you might consider the passive route:
