DP4.5 and intel imac
I just got a used 20" intel imac 2.4g.
After installing DP 4.5 on it, I plugged in the FW drive that I've been using with my ibook g4 for years. It would let me open a session and a box would come up saying that I was missing some plugins (I have transfered them from the ibook yet). I'd hit continue and it was still fine. As soon as I hit play though, it instantly gave me the "unexpected quit". It did this every time I tried.
Could this be a problem with the old version of DP not playing well with the new intel macs? Something else maybe?
Thanks in advance!

DP 4.5 is old. Very old. Pre-Intel Mac old. It will not run on MacIntels. It may run under Rosetta somewhat, but it will be crazy unstable. I believe that 4.5 is from 2004, as I jumped into DP at 4.12 (2003), and 4.5 was the update after that. I am working in DP 4.61 (2005) on PPC Macs, and it is great. DP5 was the first version (not sure exactly which update of DP5.x... released in 2006) that was created to run as a Universal Binary on both Intel Macs and PPC.
I would pay the $200 to upgrade to DP6, knowing that it is made to run on Intel machines. Or, if you cannot afford to do that, download Reaper for OSX Beta and import all of your DP4.5 SDII files as zero-rendered WAV or AIFF files (consolidating your SDIIs with your old computer in DP). And then download the Stillwell stuff. And you will have a decent recording and mixing environment for free (or for $50 if you like it and want to throw them some cash).

I would love to pay $200.00 for the DP6 upgrade. Unfortunately, my 2003 G4 laptop is non-compatible with DP6.
DP 4.12 worked great for me for years. When my hard drive crashed, the shop installed OSX 10.4.11 which, I found out, is not compatible with DP 4.12.
Oy!
So now I can either have them re-install an older OS, or I can find a used version of DP 4.5 with the install cd [not easy to find], or I can buy a new computer and pay for the upgrade to DP6.
Of course, MOTU won't let me pay for an upgrade to DP4.5, which I'd be more than happy to do. It seems that they don't work that way. It's either DP6 or too farking bad.
Until I resolve this issue, which will either cost some money or a lot of money, I can't access ANY of my 100 or so recordings. You know, my property.
Thanks MOTU!
Thankfully I still have my trusty Tascam 238 and a mini disc player. After that, it's back to the ol' wax cylinder.
