Latest gear you have abandoned
Inspired by the 'latest you have acquired' thread....
I bought a Tapco Link.Firewire 4x6 and it was nothing short of a total hassle. I still do much better when I stick to old fashioned recording... running cables from device to device, than trying to place everything (recording, tracking) within a computer.

Alesis Studio 32 Mixer. How much should I sell this for?
I replaced it with a Ramsa DA7. What a fucking truckload of mixer for $450.
I also had to replace my MOTU 24i with a 2408 so that I could go digitally into my computer from the DA7. I've been surprised by how much equipment and workflow I've had to juggle around to get the DA7 up and running. But it's been totally worth it.
Ramsa DA7 = $450
Getting to mix with faders again = Priceless
Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my Mac G4 with Cubase. I couldn't get the 2408 to work right on the Mac/Cubase combo so I had to pull out my old Windows 2000 box and run reaper. Like I said, major switchover.

You should upgrade to Win XP if you can.
Almost all of my driver issues and stability problems went away with XP sp2.
I have had a crashless DAW on an ASUS A8R MVP motherboard running a couple of 160 gig hard drives and Win XP SP2.
Mostly Sonar 7.
Though these days I am moving more towards Logic on a Mac.
The last two pieces of gear I ditched were a Ramsa WRS4112 that had one channel go bad, then the whole board wen south.
I checked the power supply, then tried pulling channels etc and finally just gave up. I never liked how it sounded. Too dull.
I also ditched a Tascam 80-8. Just chucked it in the free zone of the warehouse complex I lived in.
The machine was just getting more and more unreliable. Since I was doing just fine on my DAW I was not interested in spending several hundred to repair/maintain an 8 track reel to reel. Especially since tape was so pricey!
I wish I still had it sometimes, but then, it was not a very pro deck to begin with!

Presonus Inspire 1394. Got a great deal on it second hand from a co-worker, and might use it now and then for home recordings. But the headphone output can't drive *@#@#$ Sony headphones without the bottom end dropping out (this is not subtle, folks), and the 1/4" input has inverted polarity (wtf?).

believe me I clung to 2k far longer than was reasonable.
There were a bunch of things that went away with xp.
I crash a lot less.
Drivers seem to work better, the restore point feature is awesome and motu/sonar seems happier with xp.
but if it aint broke...

Ghastly little box.
I just couldn't get a decent sound out of it, but then perhaps that's just my programming skills.... People seem to love this thing, I really can't see why.
Ho hum.
seriously tho, wavetable synths are kind of hard to grok.I've used the vst of the waldorf ppg for a few years and only recently started being able to do anything but use presets.

ah! wavetable!! I had a ppg 2.3 & prk back in tha day... and the possibilities now are just waaay beyond, maaaaaa. Seriously deep posibilities abound, but the concepts n' stuff are pretty strange.
How about next piece i'm getting rid of-- painstakingly built, mathematically correct '2d skyline'- type diffusors... jayzus, well, I'll chalk this one up to prototyping. Here's a free tip: don't try to ceiling screw-mount 40lb wooden giant's causeway-looking yokies by yourself. Especially without moving the G_D_ mac outta the way first... and when that finely tuned, highly functional artwork starts to descend towards the open mac at 10m/sec(2), try to avoid having a 2 lb claw-hammer jutting from the one shelf in the proximity. *Fk sakes...* HAH, there's a reason the brand-name +$200 ones are made out of STYROFOAM.
So, version 1-- bonfire. Version 2- repurposed, cast-off expanded polystyrene. Easy to build yer own battery powered foam cutter (a 'd' guitar string, coupla wood scraps, some electrical tape.), works a treat, cost ya maybe ?3 to make one.
